Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes Fiber better?

Fiber uses light to carry data, while copper internet uses electrical signals. This allows fiber internet to deliver much higher speeds and more consistent performance, even during peak hours. Fiber also offers equal upload and download speeds, which is ideal for video calls, streaming, gaming, and uploading files.

Copper internet is more affected by distance, weather, and network congestion. Speeds can slow down if you’re far from the provider or when many users are online, and upload speeds are usually much slower than downloads.

In short, fiber internet is the better choice for speed, reliability, and modern online activities.

5. How does the installation work?

Professional technician

AT&T Fiber® may require a technician to come to your home, even if you have other AT&T services. Fiber requires different types of cable and equipment, so the technician will upgrade the internet lines to your home. This ensures that you have our most up-to-date fiber technology.

Installation time

It takes four to six hours to install AT&T Fiber. This may include replacing existing copper wiring with new fiber lines to provide you with our best internet experience.

Equipment

When we install your AT&T Fiber internet, we may also provide you with a new Wi-Fi® gateway. Our technician will also complete an in-home Wi-Fi assessment. This helps identify the best placement of your gateway. Plus, it shows how Wi-Fi extenders may help give you better coverage. If you choose, we’ll set you up with Extended Wi-Fi Coverage service.
